Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Summer is on the horizon, and we look forward to welcoming many of you to our Renewal Courses in Wilton, NH. In a retreat-like community, teachers are invited to breathe out the school year they have left behind and prepare for the year ahead, enjoying all the while some summer celebration.
There is still time to register!
In addition to courses designed for parents, administrators, and the wider community, we offer specialized courses for teachers of music, practical arts, mathematics, and more.
It is our hope that we can support you in bringing more than methods, and that this gathering may ignite your hearts so that you will return home full of joy.
Here is a sampling of our specialized courses:
Experiencing Singing and Eurythmy as Paths to the Spirit
with Eleanor Winship and Leonore Russell
We will experience singing as a breath-deepening, health-giving experience that energizes, heals, uplifts, and helps us to meet life’s challenges. Along with songs, rounds, and choral pieces for the family, classroom, and community, we will give special attention to meditative vocal exercises developed by Valborg Werbeck Svardstrom, a Swedish opera singer who worked with Rudolf Steiner. These exercises awaken and energize the formative and healing powers of tone, re-enliven our voices, and liberate our breathing. We will also retrace music’s formative role in humanity’s development, as outlined by Rudolf Steiner, while exploring music’s place in the related process of child development. The Interplay Between Concave and Convex in Wood and Clay
with Daniel O’Connors and Robert Thurrell
Imagine working with these two master teachers who have a life-long career behind them working with children and adolescents in Waldorf schools. This will be a profound hands-on course for practical arts teachers working with gouges and wood, and with clay. Participants will be offered an intense experience of the convex and the concave, a real schooling in the powers of observation. Click here for more information.
Philosophy of Mathematics: An Adventure in Thinking
with Jamie York
Designed both for a person without a math background who would like to explore math in a new way, and for math specialists who are interested in broadening their personal foundation in mathematics, this course offers a taste of what is possible as a culminating math course in a Waldorf high school. The philosophy of mathematics tells one of the greatest stories of all time, and in the process investigates some of math’s classic questions: “What is mathematics, really?”; “Is math created or discovered?”; and “What is it about mathematics that makes it a truly human endeavor?” In addition, we will be doing math together (puzzles and problem solving that is intended to be accessible to everyone) in order to experience the wonder of mathematics.
