Emergency Pedagogy Course

Program Scope

July 3-8, 2022 in Wilton, NH

Traumatized children and adolescents require stable and competent teachers schooled in diagnosing and averting disorders brought on by physical and emotional trauma. Psychological trauma progresses in phases. Symptoms are easily misdiagnosed, and age appropriate pedagogical intervention can help alleviate the inner paralysis brought on by trauma.

Program facilitator and presenter, Bernd Ruf will guide you through the 5-day course, including:

This course represents the first of Bernd Ruf’s internationally-recognized 12-module Emergency Pedagogy program.

Participants seeking a special International Certificate for professional world-wide trauma intervention will need to take all 12 modules. Kairos hopes to offer the four modules that are most suitable to educators/therapists.

In addition to his practical seminars, participants receive an introduction to healing therapies. You will select one of the following healing approaches to trauma on your registration form:

In addition for all: presentation on animal therapy

Group singing and speech will be part of the daily schedule.

Future Kairos plans include:

Kairos fall and summer courses can be taken individually, or as a pathway towards a diploma from the Medical Section, Goetheanum. This diploma requires Antioch training in TSHE + Kairos to observe the international standards in artistic therapies. Download the flier.

Healing in a World of Need

Painting, clay, and drawing therapies
We live in a world where all of us feel powerless at times. Due to trauma or soul overwhelm, human suffering in children, adolescents, and adults often leads to inner paralysis, exhaustion, to anger or grief, and an inability to be present and aligned with destiny intentions. Physical ailments and the burdens of psychological trauma are connected.
Healing is based on finding ways to let the creative forces of love and goodness restore and bring new hope and courage to the soul. Health-giving forces are within us and express themselves as wellbeing, life participation, resilience, and joy. Healing artistic modalities help embrace, guide, and warm the soul so she may find strength to better deal with the burdening challenges.

Painting, Clay and Drawing therapy each support this healing process through carefully led lawful artistic processes. Students will be taught foundations of these arts, inspired by Goethe, Steiner, Liane Collot d’Herbois, Margareta Hauschka, Hilma af Klint, Kandinsky, and others. Studies of thought leaders such as Otto Sharmer, Reesma Menakem and others, will complement healing studies with our faculty which includes Bernd Ruf, Orland Bishop, Michaela Gloeckler, Lakshmi Prasanna, Gleice da Silva, and others.
Therapeutic schooling will be informed by philosophic and medical insights, and experienced artistic therapists will help build a strong hands-on program to support healing work addressing suffering in human lifespan.

Experienced artistic faculty will include: Karine Munk Finser (painting therapy), Chuck Andrade (foundations in drawing and color), Susan Lyon (biography and human life span), Sylvia Borau (clay therapy, experienced therapist from the Parzival Schule in Karlsruhe, Germany), Iris Sullivan (light and darkness studies), Maria Ver Eeke (trauma and anxiety healing oriented eurythmy), Debbie Spitulnik(creative speech), Juliane Weeks (music therapy) and others.

Future

We would like to include training in Animal therapy and are actively working on bringing a therapist from Germany to one of our spring residencies.

Speech lies at the core of everything we do as human beings. Understanding language through the practice of creative speech provides insights into our students’ learning,  their social and emotional life, and their health.

Creative Speech is a course designed for students who want to develop their capacity for listening and speaking as an art form and hone their ability to use Speech as a tool for healing.

Those interested in earning an accredited M.Ed. or Certificate in Healing Education through Antioch University, as well as those wishing to take further training in artistic therapies, should send their inquiries to Karine Munk Finser, Director of the Transdisciplinary Studies in Healing Education Program (TSHE), at kfinser@antioch.edu.

This hybrid training will begin with Bernd Ruf’s course on Emergency Pedagogy, July 3-8, 2022, and continues in the fall with once a week online evening classes (generally two hours per week). Spring and summer residencies will follow.
