Winter 2024
By Karine Munk Finser
In rounding out the second year of training in artistic therapies as an iARTe cooperative member institute, we will be offering a third summer residency in Emergency Pedagogy with Bernd Ruf, this time focusing on Traumatology and Spirituality. Everyone is welcome to join since each course stands on its own. Those who have taken all three trauma modules thus far are eligible to sign up this summer to join Bernd Ruf as a member/volunteer in one of his crisis intervention teams.
The Kairos Institute at the Center for Anthroposophy is an American site for training in Emergency Pedagogy – a series of courses created for those interested in trauma education to better serve our children and adolescents, as well as our schools and communities. This program also prepares participants to join one of Bernd Ruf’s domestic and world-wide volunteer groups.
A few more details:
- Traumatology and Spirituality, with Bernd Ruf
Date & Time: Evening of 7 July 2024 to lunchtime 12 July 2024
Place: High Mowing/Pine Hill Waldorf School in Wilton, New Hampshire
For room and board, complete registration form, click here.
This week-long course constitutes Module 3 of Bernd Ruf’s 12-module Emergency Pedagogy training, but everyone is welcome to enroll in this unit. For those who have previously taken Modules 1 and 2, this third module offers the opportunity to join Bernd Ruf on one of his worldwide crisis intervention teams. Participants can sign up this summer as a volunteer, if interested, or organize themselves into groupings that have specific areas of focus.
Each day starts with Bernd’s morning lecture, translated by Gabriele Schilz, followed by afternoon workshops in artistic therapies. Options include music, painting, clowning, animal therapies, eurythmy, “Einreibungen,” and Spacial Dynamics. Participants choose one workshop Monday through Thursday. The program ends on Friday with brief sharings from each workshop.
The last session of each day will be devoted to a Q&A with Bernd Ruf and based on individual participants’ questions.
- General Online Spring Classes (open to all)
See list of online courses by clicking here.
These general classes are for Kairos students and those wishing to deepen their empathetic practices. Faculty include: Lakshmi Prasanna, MD, Angela Zhaawanongkwe Lindstrom, and James Dyson, MD.
- Kairos Training in Art Therapies
Our anthroposophical art therapy schooling is based on Collot d’Herbois’ color science, but we offer a strong orientation in Goethean-inspired art, including Hauschka and others. We work with an international faculty who offer a broad understanding and experience of color, culture, psychology, medical knowledge, and many aspects of healing. Our students are encouraged to take on supervised case studies, working with individuals or small group in their schools and communities, covering the entire human lifespan.
Length of study depends on students’ background and what they bring to their studies. In the fourth year, students are encouraged to work in clinical settings with psychiatrists, pediatricians, general practitioners, and nurse practitioners. Students enrolled in the Transdisciplinary Studies in Healing Education (TSHE) program at Antioch University New England have the advantage of translating all of their TSHE courses into iARTe credits. Others who may have similar backgrounds will be helped in aligning their life experience to iARTe requirements.
