Winter 2024
By Karen Atkinson
At the start of the New Year, CfA added a seventh program to its line-up of adult education programs. On Saturday, 13 January 2024, CfA’s Mentor Training Program opened with 40 experienced Waldorf educators who had been accepted into this ten-month course. Most of the two-hour monthly sessions are being conducted online, with the exception of a one-week intensive to be held in person on the campus of High Mowing School in July 2024.
The Mentor Training Program is the result of over two years of research spearheaded by Nettie Fabrie and Flora Seul-Jacklein, under the aegis of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). While Waldorf teacher training is the foundational first step along the teaching journey, ongoing mentoring in the classroom with professionally trained mentors is recognized as a crucial further stage in this process. By providing solid mentoring through a “pedagogical partnership” approach, participants will travel a path of training based on the seven life processes as they build capacities to engage with new and developing Waldorf colleagues.
The Mentor Training Program emphasizes self-development, fostering relationships, heightened communication skills, and inclusivity. In the end, supporting schools that seek guidance for developing Waldorf educators constitutes a lasting contribution to the broader educational community. It is the goal of the program to carry, support, and inspire Waldorf education now and into the future.
There’s still time this month to join and become a trained mentor! For more information, visit our website: Mentor Training Program.
