Kairos: Healing in a World of Need through Visual and Performing Arts

Karine Munk Finser, Director of the Kairos Institute

Painting for Kairos Institute'

Starting with Bernd Ruf’s course on “Emergency Pedagogy,” CfA’s Kairos Institute is launching the first of a multi-unit training this summer intended to treat and prevent trauma through the healing modalities of the arts.

Kairos will offer pathways for vocational training in artistic therapies, as well as creative speech formation. This is a unique experience to create something specifically designed for North America and the many challenges and trauma we are experiencing here. We will of course welcome students from all over the world to participate.

To begin, we will focus on art therapy: Clay, Painting, and Drawing. Debbie Spitulnik––in cooperation with Agnes Zehnter, who oversees international speech training at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland––will offer Creative Speech and Drama. As a recognized member of IArte, Kairos will offer courses that conform to the international standards for artistic therapies, as well as Creative Speech and Drama.

Our Summer 2022 residency will be followed by core courses that may be taken as a whole or selectively. Spring 2023 will be offered as a one-week residency.

We are working to create pathways for those who wish a Diploma from the Medical Section at the Goetheanum and the Performing Arts Section of the School for Spiritual Science. Kairos Institute Certificates of Completion for courses will be offered through CfA.
