Sculpture II (HS 239)

I  Projected Learning Goals and Objectives:

A deepening of the practice of clay sculpture in its fundamental artistic principles constitutes the basis of this course. The importance and relevance of the artistic exercises as supportive of adolescent development will be discussed, especially in relation to the content of Rudolf Steiner’s First Teachers’ Course (a.k.a. Study of Man). Appropriate Waldorf curriculum indications for sculpture and related subjects are given.

II  Overview of Course Content and Methods:

Following an introduction or review of the day’s theme, classes will consist of demonstrations and guided sculptural practice

III  Outline of Topics to be Covered:

Week 1

  • Review of fundamentals from Year I
  • Exploring gesture and language of form in clay              

Weeks 3-5

  • Sculpting the Human Form

IV Verification Requirements and Evaluation Methods:

Students will be evaluated on their attentiveness and degree of participation.
